HUNTING HORNS CONCERT
26 August, 7:30 pm: Hunting Horns Concert
The Montpoupon hunting horn group will close the Summer holidays with a concert, with the majestic main courtyard of the chateau as a scene.
This year, they have invited the international champions of Vendôme to play with them.
Montpoupon’s group was formed in 1998 and is tied closely to the history of the site, and especially to its Hunting Museum, which opened in 1995. A CD with 36 hunting signals (fanfares) was recorded by the group in 2015 for the 20-year anniversary of the Museum. Most of the tunes are linked to the hunting company of Montpoupon and its territory.
Today, there are a dozen players (sonneurs) in the group, and several of them are among the best in the FITF (the international federation of hunting horns in France)
A hunting horn school was also founded 5 years ago, for both beginners and more experienced players to be able to learn and get better.
The musical art of horn players was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2020.
Several types of traditional tunes will be played during the night: short ones, which are played during hunts to signal events, tunes dedicated to an area or territory, and longer tunes, composed especially to be played by groups.
10€/person, free for children under 12.
The doors will open at 6:30 pm.
All tickets must be bought on the day of the concert, no prior reservation.
